Phase I: Purpose

In the name of Allah, Most Beneficent, Most Merciful

From the instruction of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) we know that ‘actions are judged by intention.[1] So we begin the training with a process of sharing our intention from a training perspective and guiding the doula trainee to clarify her own.  This phase provides a spiritual and methodological overview of the training process and in fact frames the up-coming training experience.

It includes an overview of the role of the doula and research-based impacts of doulas on the birth experiences and birth outcomes of women, their infants and their families members.

We believe that this act of providing doula support to a woman can be and should be, if approached with the intention of pleasing Allah, an act of worship and a sadaqa to the birthing woman, her child and her family…and to society at large.

The training will cover topics including:

  • Doula Care – What is It?
  • Potential Impacts of Doula Care
  • Program Intent and Inception
  • Review of the 7 Phases Philosophy of Birth and Doula Support and their Spiritual Significance
  • Clarification of Doula Intent
  • Scope of Training Program
  • Training Structure and Requirements of the Trainee
  • Syllabus, Learning Objectives and Desired Outcomes
